The story of two young lovers from rival families is bringing annual pilgrimage of people of all ages and continents, to this most famous, romantic address in Italy. Casa di Gulietta, located at Via Cappello 23 in Verona and the story written by Luigi da Porto of Vicenza in the 1520s, has inspired many artists, dramas, films, operas and ballets.
Amongst them, the most famous of all 'Romeo & Juliet' by William Shakespeare written about 70 years later.
In the drama, Romeo is said to have climbed up to Juliet's balcony in this house in Verona. Today, it is a place for tourists, especially couples, who go up to seal a kiss, take a photo or even get married. The balcony is featured prominently above the little courtyard, with Juliet's bronze statue standing right below it. It is believed that touching Juliet's right breast will bring good luck in love and life.
Love is very much in the air here and to fully soak in the atmosphere and take some photos without the crowd, one should visit this place at the very early hours of the morning. By the time, the house and balcony is opened to visitors the courtyard is full of people and so will your precious photographs.
As featured in the movie 'Letters to Juliette', the Verona-based Club di Gulietta answers thousands of letters addressed each year to Juliette. Her fifteen volunteer secretaries, who wish to keep the legend of Romeo and Juliet alive, write back giving hope to all lost in love.
Verona is so much more then this famous house. It is one of the most beautiful Italian cities so be sure to come for a few days to be touched by it's beauty. Check out my other posts and feel inspired. :)
