Corte San Mattia Agriturismo, Verona, Italy

Usually very organised, this time we were booking our accommodation in Verona, in the very last minute. Obviously many of the lovely hotels were booked out, but as always, I remained optimistic. As soon as I have found this little charming place I felt this was where I wanted me and my family to stay.
I was a little hesitant at first, as the hotel was a bit further away from the Verona center; what can be a bit of a concern for families with small children. I followed my instincts anyway and phoned the hotel. After speaking with a lovely receptionist and receiving some photos via email, I booked 3 nights at the end of July without hesitation.

Corte San Mattia is a rural, yet charming family farm, with lush greenery, poplar and olive trees, cosy cottages, rooms and terraces with panoramic views. Some offer small private gardens other patios, with tables and chairs, where you can enjoy your evening and admire the romantic view of Verona and its historic city center.

A warm welcome at the reception awaits you in this family-run hotel, surrounded with flowers, grape and olive trees.

Bikes are available for rental so you can take a ride down the hills to the historic center and along the beautiful Adige river.

Complete peacefulness to the sound of nature, whilst relaxing in your private patio or garden is what is so special about this place.

Hotels with beautiful balconies or patio settings are ideal if you seek tranquility, practice mindfulness, yoga, read or like me make notes and create lasting memories in travel journals.

The splendid unobstructed view is definitely one of San Mattia's treasures.

Dining is a lovely experience in this rustic restaurant, split over 3 levels (if you include the outside dining area). Organic food is locally produced including fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs, as well as wine, olive oil and jams. With the later ones available to purchase directly from the farm.

The view of Verona from the outdoor dining area is exquisite. The lovely atmosphere at dinner accompanied by the sound of cicadas, feeling at times as if you were at a wedding party, especially as kids are free to wander around the lawns at the front. The staff are very nice and make you feel there is no rush so you can just enjoy your long evening. In between the courses, be sure to watch, as it turns from day to night, with Verona's magic unfold and sparkle in front of your eyes.

Next day after breakfast, we left Corte San Mattia for a new adventure. We hope to be back one day to get to know more of this amazing city, its warm people and beautiful surroundings. For now, it's Ciao, until next time! ❤️

Pactical info:
  • Book directly at Corte San Mattia by phone or online.
  • Arrive by car or by train at Verona Porta Nuova train station. Once at the station take one of the taxis waiting outside. The journey up hills is short and worth it.
  • To get to the city center and back from San Mattia, we chose between a taxi and a mini bus (located 100 meters away). It takes about 10 minutes (each way), with the bus coming in approximately every hour (ask for details at reception) and the taxi being a more frequent option. Bike hire is available at reception and walking is another option and takes approximately 20 mins.
  • Food and wine tours are available (enquire at reception) as well as other events and trips further afield; explore surrounding villages or travel to lake Garda by bus or train.
  • Mosquito repellent may be required, especially when you travel with children.
