Boa Noite, Portugal

Three years ago, in February, we had decided to pack our life yet again and move from Cambridge, UK to a warmer climate. After researching few options, we decided to go to the same little fisherman's town, we visited almost 10 years earlier. We started packing, before we even had a place to rent. We knew, renting a nice place in Portugal, that was warm in winter, cool in summer, with all the mod cons, wasn't going to be easy.

Husband went first. He talked to local agents, visited some other local towns and was going to come back home with not much success. Yet just before he boarded his plane, one early Saturday morning, he decided to go back to the very same agent he visited a couple of days earlier and gave it one last shot.

There it was, not yet advertised, a modern, duplex apartment on the 2nd floor, bigger then what we really needed, with 7 rooms and 3 bathrooms, two terraces, 3km from the centre of town, for 550 eur a month..

We have landed in Porto, at 9pm at the end of June 2017. The calmness of Francisco SΓ‘ Carneiro Airport compared to London Stansted, was what hit us straight away. The renting of a car took forever (with just one person in front of us), but the quiet night drive to our town was very soothing. The kids have fallen asleep.

After 25 mins drive, we got out of the car and waved to our dear Nana, who welcomed us in our new home with a warm soup. This was exactly what we needed.., before finally falling asleep at 1am, with full tummies and in freshly prepared beds.
