Biocelos Organic Orchard and Grocery Shop

living in Portugal

Just before we moved to Portugal, I had found Lola Bio online, but Biocelos was an extra blessing recommended by our friends. This beautiful, extremely well kept family farm, was located just a few kilometers from Barcelos. There was a large green signpost welcoming us to the farm with fairly large parking. Once inside, you were warmly welcomed by Margarida or one of Biocelos staff. If you chose to have lunch it was prepared and served with real care and passion, and you would get the sense of being looked after, just as if you were visiting family or friends.

There was a small, well stocked, grocery shop, where you could easily do your weekly shopping. I will never forget the moment, when a blanket and toys suddenly arrived from the back room for my kids, whilst I did some shopping. This is the warm Portuguese hospitality, something you never forget. On days, that I could not go to them, they would deliver to me, for which I was very grateful.

When the weather was nice you could have your lunch outside. Biocelos also hosted special events, such as vegan workshops, where many people arrived to share a wonderful time together, accompanied by delicious food, that grew only meters away. Children could also participate and plant herbs and plants to take home.

It was really easy to love Biocelos, for their kind people, for their passion to grow their fruits and vegetables organic, for their well kept greenhouses and orchards. We will always be grateful for their hospitality and for always willing to invite our children to peak inside their orchards and greenhouses, where they would pick their strawberries and raspberries.
