The bust stop was just about 100 meters from our hotel. We did not wait long before the mini bus arrived. We bought our tickets, took the window seats and off we went downhill to the beautiful, history rich city of Verona.
The views were spectacular. Warm yellow, green and pink homes, with lush greenery and gates at the front; with bikes or vespas parked outside, elegant older ladies chatting.., the time has slowed down. The heat was extraordinary but luckily the sky was a bit cloudy. After about 10 minutes bus ride, we got off right in the city center.
There was a beautiful, rather large market square (Piazza delle Erbe) in the city center, with not many flowers, fruit and vegetables sellers remaining at this time. Instead the souvenir sellers have taken their place. All the restaurants around the square were fully opened, inviting all the passers by, encouraged by the smell of pizza and pasta. We were tempted.., and as much as we wanted to find a lovely vegan or plant based restaurant we ended up with a pizza topped up by a gelatto. ;)
Seriously, there is something magical about Italian ice creams. They taste like nowhere else.. I guess, you can say exactly the same about Italian pizzas. :) We were happy to discover the many natural gelaterias with a great selection of ice creams (often organic).
We came back to our hotel late evening. As we walked to our little cottage, to the romantic sound of cicadas, the smell of poplar trees, enjoying the dreamy and romantic views of Verona by night. We knew this was the place we would want to come back to.
