Saturday Market and Lola Bio

Just like in the neighbouring Mediterranean countries, the people of Portugal love their weekly market. During the two years of living in Portugal, we visited the buzzing market held in the centre of Esposende each Saturday.

Here, you would always find fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers all grown locally and the fish would be caught in the ocean not far from the coast.

The Homes of North Portugal

living in portugal - homes

As far as accommodation go, living in Portugal is comfortable. The homes are big and spacious, the gardens are quite small but flowers, fruit trees and vegetables are lovingly planted, garden ornaments add charm and enhance entrances.

This time, we will take a different route, and then meet where we have left off in Part 1. Last time, we passed the marina and children's playground on the right, then crossed the road on the left. This time we will continue straight ahead, passing the marina on the right and then the roundabout on the left.

First days in Portugal

Good Morning, Portugal! This was the view that we would wake up to, for the next two years. The sheep, the chickens, the dogs, the birds and of course the ocean, were our wake up clocks. You could hear the ocean much better at night, when all of the other

Boa Noite, Portugal

Three years ago, in February, we had decided to pack our life yet again and move from Cambridge, UK to a warmer climate. After researching few options, we decided to go to the same little fisherman's town, we visited almost 10 years earlier. We started packing, before we even had a place to rent. We knew, renting a nice place in Portugal, that was warm in winter, cool in summer, with all the mod cons, wasn't going to be easy.

Costa Blanca to Portugal via Madrid

After 4 night's stay on the Costa Blanca, we left Denia, with the aim to catch the train from Alicante to Madrid. Everything was going well, until our little one, decided he no longer wanted to stay in the car. We had a compulsory, two-hour stopover at some Spanish rancho, after which we continued our journey. After returning the car in Alicante and a quick food shopping, we got on a two-hour, direct train to Madrid.

Buenos días Costa Blanca

The next morning we left Girona on a train to Valencia, with a stop to change the trains in Barcelona. Valencia was a big city with lots of noise and cars, but I liked the way it came to life in the evening, when all the bars and restaurants opened up, the smell of food and people sitting outside by the tables out on the streets. This was the Spanish nightlife.
